Review: Savage® Arms 110 Scout

As a young firearms enthusiast, I have always enjoyed keeping up with the latest and greatest new products and upgrades on the market. This made the 2018 S.H.O.T. Show the place to be and in February, the NRA Shooting Sports Ambassadors walked the halls of this grand event and it was impressive and overwhelming. When I came to Savage® Arm’s booth, I saw something special with their reintroduced, yet to be released, Model 110 Scout™.

One of Savage’s top marketing professionals introduced me to the 110 Scout™ and explained the concept and functionality behind Savage’s® groundbreaking Model 110 series. Each Model 110 rifle is equipped with Savage’s® patented state of the art AccuFit® stocks to adjust the check weld and butt for a custom fit. The idea behind AccuFit® is to give the user the ability to get a perfect individual fit that produces top of the line eye-relief that is perfect for scouting or hunting. This makes each rifle highly customizable and useable for a wide range of shooters, young and old alike. The 110 Scout™ fittingly gets its name from the overall versatility of its platform. It is specifically made with a shorter than average barrel length at just 16.5 inches and includes a forward-mounted rail. Other features include a ten-round detachable box MagPul® PMag® and a rugged OD Green stock that compliments its inherently tactical style.

After learning firsthand about the details and distinctions, I could not wait to see how it performed in the field. I returned home from S.H.O.T. and anxiously awaited delivery. When I was ready to shoot, I decided to set up a trio of paper targets at a hundred-yard distance. This allowed me to compare the groupings of each target and determine just how well each fared. As I racked the first round into the chamber and heard the familiar click of the bolt, it was apparent the rifle provided a smooth and easy action as it locked in place. I took a deep breath and slowly squeezed the signature AccuTrigger® and experienced a crisp click and the classic .308 recoil kick cushioned by the rubberized AccuFit® stock. My targets proved the 110 Scout™ delivered impressive performance and presented accurate grouping patterns. Each grouping spanned approximately three-inches of separation and I was pleased with the consistency. Overall, I appreciated having rubberized grips since they were extremely comfortable. My favorite features were the muzzle break and coloring. I also loved the attention to detail, especially the etching of the Savage® brand that peeked through the bolt action with every cycled round. The Savage® Model 110 Scout™ is a very appealing all-around rifle and I definitely recommend it.

The Savage® 110 series offers several models to deliver a product to best meet any individual need. Ultimately you can take confidence when investing in any of their firearms because of their reputation for quality.
